A Busy Weekend for Hatfield

The weekend of March 14-15 was a busy one for Hatfield’s swimmers, coaches, volunteers and parents. Not only was it the important weekend where on Sunday we celebrate all our mothers, we were also hosting our 60th Anniversary meet at the same time as our senior swimmers were attending a competition at Putteridge.

Although we were spread a little more thinly than usual due to both meets clashing, our army of volunteers came together brilliantly to put on another fantastic meet. As Hatfield are celebrating a milestone of 60 years this year, we had decorations, posters, and extra competitions on offer to mark the moment. We also held ‘hot heats’ where the winner took home a coveted rubber duck or a voucher to use at Aqua Swim Supplies.

The Anniversary meet ran smoothly and we had many glowing comments about it, especially the food and treats on offer to the officials and coaches, many of which are home baked and donated by our meet bakers team. The photos taken during the weekend were also extremely popular and we are lucky to have a talented photographer offering his support to the club for this.

There were lots of happy faces on poolside too with our swimmers putting the skills they learn in training to good use. PB’s were coming all over the place as well as hard sought after qualification times for regionals. It was great to see such positive energy with lots of cheering and support for teammates.

Over at the Putteridge meet, the older swimmers were also working hard racing in the first long course meet of the Summer Nationals window. The two days were very long, especially after an extended break due to the unfortunate result of someone being sick in the pool after a 200m butterfly! Luckily it wasn’t one of our swimmers. Although PB’s were slightly harder to come by, the group swam well on the whole and were able to practice executing their race plans and evaluating things afterwards to keep improving.

Hopefully at the end of a long day on Sunday, all those mum’s that volunteered their time went home to be pampered and showered with gifts and cuddles. Well, at least a take away, some wine or chocolate???
