And We’re Off!!!
The new season is now in full swing with swimmers back to training and setting their sights on new goals for the year. Racing got underway this past weekend when Hatfield kicked off it’s first round of club championships weekends. The pool was a sea of pink hats, waves and splash as the Pink Army tested their skills against the clock.
The first Sunday of competition saw our swimmers, big and small, take on their choice of six different events. First up on the night was the gruelling 400m IM – what a way to start your season! After this were some shorter events for the sprinters among us, beginning with the 50m butterfly. This was followed by the 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke. The 200m free was next and the night ended with the 100m IM.
It was fantastic to see so many young, new faces racing for the first time as well as our seniors, some of whom have been at the club for over ten years. We also had a master’s swimmer join in the fun and race next to his son! There were lots of smiles and best times on the night as well as the inevitable DQ’s. Don’t worry too much about those though as it’s all part of the learning curve.
The gallery was busy and it’s lovely to see so many parents watching their children and enjoying the racing. Thank you to all the volunteers that make this all possible and the coaches for supporting our swimmers. Hatfield is a volunteer run club so we rely on parents to make these events possible. If you’d like to help out, please do consider volunteering or becoming an official.
This week there will be two nights of racing. The distance events will be on Friday with another round of events on Sunday. Good luck to all the swimmers! Let’s go Pink Army!
