Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships Round-up

The Aquatics GB Next Gen Summer Champs took place in Sheffield last week. The Pink Army had four swimmers who qualified for individual events and two relays also taking part. Qualification for the competition is very tough and our swimmers did a great job qualifying.

Oliver Baskerville raced all three backstroke events from the 50m, the slightly longer 100m and also the 200m events throughout the week. Competing in the combined age group of 17 & 18 year olds, he placed 25th in the 50m, 15th in the 100m and 11th in the 200m, narrowly missing out on a finals place.

Daniel Belsey was entered in two events, the 400m and 200m freestyle. He was also competing in the 17/18 year old age group. Daniel finished 36th in the 400m and 25th in the 200m.

Hatfield had two breaststrokers in action over the course of the week, both racing in the 19&over age group. Ashley Ransome swam the 50m and 100m distances and qualified for finals of both. She finished just outside the medals in 4th place in the 50m, just .02 seconds off 3rd place. She also swam in the 100m final, finishing in 8th.

Our other breaststroker was Caitlin Hartley. Caitlin competed in the 100m and 200m events and made finals in both of these races. In a close 100m, she finished in 7th place. A couple of days later, she finished in 7th place again but this time in the 200m.

Both Oliver and Daniel were joined by K-ets Yah-Khai and Oliver Fenwick for the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. The boys raced hard and finished in 22nd place overall.

Caitlin was also in action on a relay. She was joined by Camille Vannier, Honor Beverstock and Katie Jeffrey on the final day of competition. The girls competed in the 4×100 medley relay where they came together to better their qualification time and finish in 22nd place.

A huge well done to all of our Aquatics GB competitors! The Pink Army are very proud of your achievements and you are great role models for our aspiring younger swimmers to look up to and emulate.
