British Summer Nationals

The newly named Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships was held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from 19th-25th July. The Pink Army had nine qualifiers who made their way north over the week to compete against some of the nation’s best swimmers.

Louise Fiddes, Ashley Ransome, Ever Ives, Caitlin Hartley, Lucas Hartley, Camille Vannier, Oliver Baskerville, Alexandra Nurney and Daniel Belsey represented Hatfield throughout the week with strong swimming in the heats. The top 10 in each age group progressed to finals in the evening. On day 2, Louise and Ashley qualified for finals with Caitlin in 11th, missing out by one place. Louise came home with a silver medal.

On days 4 and 6, Alexandra made it through to finals after coming close on day 3 with 11th and 12th place finishes. Day 7 saw three of our swimmers, Caitlin, Oliver and Louise, make it back to swim again.

It was a good week of competition. Dan said “it was a tough week for some with lots of learning curves and a highly successful week for others”. The team produced quite a few season’s best times and a number of PB’s which are always harder to come by as you get older. Well done to all our British Champs qualifiers!
