Euro Meet, Luxembourg

  • February 26, 2025

During the last weekend of January, a small group of senior swimmers and their parents travelled independently to Luxembourg to compete in the 25th edition of the Euro Meet. This is an International meet where our swimmers had a chance to meet and race against some of the world’s best swimmers including Paris 2024 medallists Nicolo Martinenghi and Maxime Grousset.

Held at the 50m pool in the Centre National Sportif et Culturel d’Coque, the competition ran over 3 days and included heats and finals. It was an exciting arena to swim in and finals were a spectacle to watch with music, lights and pyrotechnics.

Our swimmers were Ben Davison, Oliver Baskerville, Sam Jeffrey, Daniel Belsey, Lucas Hartley, Liam Rumball, Erin Currie, Katie Jeffrey and Honor Beverstock. Racing was tough after a few continuous weeks of Counties, but everyone coped well with the transition to long course. It was good to get a meet in early in the season. Oliver Baskerville managed to swim himself into the B finals of the 100m and 200m backstroke events while concurrently placing in the top 10 Juniors in the same events. Lucas Hartley also achieved a top 10 Junior place in the 50m free as did Erin Currie in the 50m backstroke. In addition to these achievements, there were also PB’s for some of the swimmers which is really positive so early in the year.

Erin had this to say about the experience “Luxembourg was an amazing experience from watching Olympians race in the finals to even racing against some in the heats. This experience taught me lots of things, like enjoying the atmosphere of race day, to seeing how others prepare themselves for final.”
