EuroMeet Luxembourg 2026

Last weekend, a small group of Hatfield’s senior swimmers travelled independently to Luxembourg to compete in the 26th edition of the EuroMeet. This event is touted as Luxembourg’s greatest swim event and is held each year at the end of January. It takes place at the Aquatic Centre of d’Coque and attracts some of the world’s best swimmers.

EuroMeet is run over three days. The fastest heats are held in the early morning followed directly by all remaining heats. In the afternoon, B finals kick off the session and are followed by A finals and medal ceremonies. The competition presents a good opportunity for early season long course races and also provides valuable experience for our swimmers.

There were many strong swims from our small group with quite a few being close to their best times. A couple even brought home medals as Tommy Fenwick placed in the top three Youth swimmers and Oliver Baskerville in the top three Juniors for the 200m backstroke.

Over the course of the weekend, Hatfield had two swimmers qualify for finals swims. Oliver Baskerville, in his favoured event of 200m backstroke, progressed through to the A final where he swam a strong race to finish in tenth place. Caitlin Hartley also earned a second swim by making it into the B final of the 200m breaststroke finishing seventh.

The group represented the Pink Army well and hopefully others will return to the meet in coming years to gain experience in international competition.
