Gold and Bronze for Martyn at European Juniors

Martyn Walton swam for GB in the European Junior Championships on the 9th-13th July 2014 in Dordrecht, Holland.

On the opening day Martyn had an excellent split of 50.65 in heat of the 4 x 100 free relay. Martyn’s 400m free was a solid time of 3:56 finishing in 12th position overall. The first day finished with an excellent GOLD medal in the 4 x 100 Free Relay, Martyn’s split was 50.4. Britain had not won the boys 4×100 Free Relay for a many years at European Juniors – a great race with GB winning by  over 2 seconds in 3:19:78 – Italy 2nd and Germany 3rd ! Martyn said of the race “We knew the competition was going to be tough, but we stuck to our plan and delivered when it mattered”. The Gold winning team pictured above was Duncan Scott (17), Miles Munro (18), Martyn Walton (16) and Jack Smith (18) .

51.1 PB in the 100 free saw Martyn progress to semi finals where he posted 51.48 for 14th place overall. He then led off the mixed 4×100 free relay in a 51.17 split helping the team to 5th place overall

Martyn raced the lead leg in 4 x 200 free relay in 1:51.7 and the team went through to the finals. In the final Martyn lead the team out in 1:50.84 PB and the team clinched BRONZE. The team was Martyn Walton (16), Daniel Jervis (17), Jack Smith (18) and Duncan Scott (17)

Martyn completed the European Juniors finishing 10th in 200 free semis and swam heats of the medley relay.

Martyn had a fantastic experience at European Juniors and came away with a GOLD and BRONZE medal. The GB team had  great results over the whole championshps and finished second in the medal table behind Russia – well done to the whole team!
