Hatfield success at Winter Nationals

  • December 21, 2016
Max Jelfs, Cole James,  Reese Housden, Sophie Payne, Charlie Pond Thompson,  Charlie Rayner, and Luke Turley all represented our club at the ASA Winter Nationals held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield from 15th to 18th December 2016. Even though this was the first winter nationals meet for most of our swimmers, all swam very well and gained some great experience to build on.

Luke Turley and Charlie Pond Thompson both made B finals. Luke came 2nd in the B final in 400m freestyle and 7th in 200m freestyle, swimming both events in his personal best times. Charlie Pond Thompson finished 7th in the B final of 100m IM, also swimming his personal best time. Reese Housden and Charlie Rayner came 3rd in the 15/under age group. Reese won the bronze medal in 100m freestyle, while Charlie won bronze in 200m breaststroke. Both juniors swam their personal best times with Reese swimming the fastest ever 14 year old 100m British short course freestyle time (see separate post on Reese’s record-breaking performance).

Full results of the meet can be found here.

Head Coach Janko commented: “I was pleased to see a nice improvement in the way the swimmers have approched this meet and improved their skills. We saw some excellent performances from our swimmers and also learned that there is still plenty to work on and room for future improvement which is a great position to be in at this stage of the season. I am looking forward to our training and racing in 2017, and seeing our swimmers progress to the next level. I  wish everyone at the club a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!”
