Hatfield Swimmer, Emily Carter, Selected for Great Britain Under 19 Underwater Hockey Team

Congratulations to Emily Carter and her family on her selection to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Under 19 Underwater Hockey World Championships. Emily is currently a member of our Dragon Squad and will soon be travelling to Turkey to take part in the competition there.

Emily has been a member of Hatfield for quite a few years now, starting in Venom, moving to Mosquito and then on to Dragon. She trains at Hatfield and also with HTAP at the university as well as her underwater hockey sessions with the GB squad, many taking place in Leeds.

Whereas Emily has sometimes found the busy and noisy atmosphere of swimming competitions difficult to deal with, underwater hockey, also known as octopush, has provided her with a perfect opportunity to combine her love of swimming with a sport played in the quiet of the underwater environment. This is typically at depths of 2-3 metres and takes good breath control and physical fitness.

Everyone at Hatfield wishes Emily and the GB team the best of luck at the championships! The cost of attending the championships is all self funded as there are currently no grants or sponsorships available to players in the UK.
