National and Regional Representation for Hatfield’s Coaches

Our very own Head Coach, Daniel Fogg, has been selected to be this season’s lead coach of the National Open Water Development Programme. Prior to his coaching career at Hatfield, Daniel himself was an elite distance swimmer. He represented Team GB at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London where he came 5th in the open water 10-kilometre event and 8th in the 1,500-metre freestyle. In 2010 Daniel won 1500m freestyle bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He also won gold in the 5km open water at the European Championships in Berlin in 2014.

Swim England’s National Open Water Development Programme is part of the England Talent Pathway. Selection for the SE Talent Open Water pathway is made from results at the National Age Group Championships and 1500m/800m English rankings. The programme offers elite support, camps, and coaching for top young distance swimmers to progress to an international level. This is offered alongside broader club-based initiatives for wider participation and skill-building, focusing on resilience, confidence, and technical skills in open water environments, supported by specialized coaching and regional development structures. Daniel will be leading camps throughout this season and play a crucial part in the development of young distance talent in England.

Slightly closer to home, Daniel Tshuma, Hatfield’s Assistant Head Coach, has been chosen as a Skills Coach for this year’s SE East Region development programme. This is part of Swim England’s national talent pathway and aims to develop promising 13 year olds through training camps, and workshops focused on technical skills, dry land exercises and education in nutrition and psychology. The East Region camps are to be held over 2 Face -to-Face days in September 2025 and June 2026.
