Swim England National Summer Meet Round-up

The final meet of the season for our swimmers was held last week in Sheffield. The Swim England National Summer Meet was attended by eight Hatfield swimmers all of whom qualified in the window earlier in the season. The club are incredibly proud of their achievements and were excited to see how they all performed on the National stage this year. We also had one swimmer compete in the National Open Water Championships a few days prior to the pool competition.

Harry George was our lone swimmer in the open water race and did a great job in his first 7.5km race. He had to navigate a feeding station as well as his way around the lake.

Day 1 at the pool saw two of our swimmers competing. Perrin Ma swam the 400m freestyle and Maxwell George raced the 50m backstroke. Both qualified for finals. Perrin achieved a PB in the heats then again in his final and finished in 9th place. Maxwell was just outside of his entry time and finished 10th.

After a day off for the Pink Army, Day 3 saw Ashley Ransome back in Sheffield after her successful week at British Summer Champs. This time she was competing in the 50m butterfly. She qualified for the final and after an eventful session, finished in 5th with a new PB. Nieve Ives was also racing in the 100 breaststroke. She finished in 25th place. Oliver Fenwick was also racing in the 1500m freestyle. He executed a well put together race with great pacing and was rewarded with a 10 second PB and 7th place finish.

Day 4 and Perrin was back in action in the 200m free. He again qualified for the final in a new PB to earn himself an extra swim. Coming in just outside that time in the final, he finished in 10th place.

On the penultimate day of racing, Caitlin Hartley returned to the water in Ponds Forge. She had also had a successful week at British Summer Champs and was here to compete in the 50m breaststroke. Caitlin had a strong heat swim and qualified for the final. Next in the water was Perrin., This time he was in the 800m free and swam another PB finishing 6th. K-ets Yah-Khai also swam the 800m and finished just outside his PB in 9th place. Caitlin returned in the evening for the final put together a great swim to finally set a new PB in the 50m breaststroke and topped it off with a silver medal in a very close race. This was to be Hatfield’s only medal of the national meets this year so a fantastic achievement.

The final day of competition saw Camille Vannier in action. She competed in the 50m backstroke and set a new PB in the heats to claim her place in the finals. Coming back to race again in the evening, she again set a new PB and took 7th place.

Well done to all of our National swimmers. They all did the Pink Army proud and it was great to see that bright pink hat in the water most days of the competition Enjoy a well earned rest and we’ll see you all back at the pool next season!.
