University Swimmers Head to Sheffield for BUCS
This weekend Pond’s Forge in Sheffield will host the Long Course British Universities and College Sport Championships. The meet offers 50m, 100m and 200m of each stroke plus 200m and 400m IM and 400m, 800m and 1500m free events. There are also relays of 4x100m for men, women and mixed. Competition is tough and some of the best swimmers in the country are there competing, including some Olympians. The competition runs over three days from 13-15 February.
Heats are split into two sessions with the fastest heats swum in the early morning and the rest of the swimmers racing after that. There will be A and B finals held for the top 20 swimmers in the afternoon. The positions athletes finish in earn points which go towards each team’s total to determine the top Universities. Individuals may enter up to three individual events and only three swimmers from each institution may be entered into each event.
Hatfield have seven swimmer’s who are competing this year for their universities. They are the following:
Ben Davison – Anglia Ruskin University. 50m, 100m, 200m freestyle
Caitlin Hartley – University of Bath. 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke. 4x100m medley relay.
Charlotte Williams – University of Surrey. 50m, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and relays.
Josh Ellis – Manchester Metropolitan University. 100m, 200m free, 200m butterfly and relays.
Lucas Hartley – University of Birmingham. 50m, 100m free, 50m breaststroke. 4x100m free and medley relays.
Millie Richardson – University of Bristol. 200m, 400m, 800m free and relays.
Shannon Stott – Sheffield Hallam University. 100m, 200m butterfly, 400m free and relays.
